Saint John defenceman Ryan Bast has been stolen from the Flames in a controversial signing by the Philadelphia Flyers, say Sun sources.
The complicated contract status of Bast, who had signed only a minor league contract with Saint John, apparently allowed the Flyers to sign him to a lucrative two-year deal beginning in the 1999-2000 season.
Bast still has one year remaining on his $37,000 contract with Saint John.

Coffey told the Philadelphia Inquirer that he and GM Bobby Clarke have reached an agreement that will see the 36-year-old traded this summer. Coffey was not even used by coach Roger Neilson down the stretch or in the playoffs and was angered when Neilson hinted he was declining.
